What Does a TR19 Certificate Cost in Swansea?
Typical price bands for kitchen extract cleaning and certification, and how to get an accurate Swansea quote.
How much does a TR19 certificate cost in Swansea?
A TR19 certificate is not sold on its own: it comes with the clean or inspection behind it. Published UK ranges put a full TR19-standard clean with certificate at about £450 to £900 for a single-canopy café, takeaway or pub kitchen, £900 to £1,600 for a restaurant or hotel kitchen, and £1,600 to £2,500 or more for multi-canopy sites. An inspection and report alone is usually £180 to £450.

Few local firms publish prices for kitchen extract cleaning, which is why "TR19 certificate cost" gets typed into Google so often. Below are the typical UK ranges, what pushes a quote up or down, and what a Swansea kitchen should expect to pay.
A note on the figures. The bands below are typical ranges published by national extract-cleaning contractors in 2026. They are not our prices — we arrange a tailored quote from a specialist provider covering Swansea Bay, and it is that quote you should rely on. The bands are here so you can tell a fair quote from a bad one.
Typical price bands (UK, 2026)
| What | Typical range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single canopy, short duct run, fan — full TR19-standard clean with certificate | £450 – £900 | A café, small takeaway or pub kitchen with easy access |
| Restaurant or hotel kitchen, one or two canopies, longer ductwork | £900 – £1,600 | Most Swansea restaurants sit here |
| Multi-canopy or multi-outlet site, long or awkward duct runs, roof fan | £1,600 – £2,500+ | Hotels, holiday parks, stadium and institutional kitchens |
| Standalone inspection and condition report (no clean) | £180 – £450 | Grease readings, photographs, written report — useful before a lease or renewal |
| Fitting an access hatch where the duct cannot be reached | £60 – £150 each | One-off; makes every later clean quicker and cheaper |
Is the certificate a separate cost?
No. The certificate is the record of the clean, not a product on its own. A proper quote includes the post-clean certificate, before-and-after photographs, grease-depth readings and a recommended next-service date. If a quote is cheap and the paperwork is "extra", that is the quote to walk away from — the paperwork is the part your insurer will ask for.
What pushes the price up
- Grease depth. A system left for two years takes far longer to strip than one on a six-monthly schedule. The first clean is always the dearest.
- Duct length and route. A ten-metre run through a ceiling void with no access points costs more than a straight two-metre run to an outside wall.
- Access. No hatches means hatches get fitted. That is a one-off cost that pays back on the very next visit.
- Working hours. Most kitchens want the work done before opening or overnight. Out-of-hours is normal for this trade and usually built into the quote, but a 2am start at a hotel is not the same job as a Monday morning at a café.
- Roof access. A fan on a flat roof with a fixed ladder is quick. A fan on a pitched roof needing a tower is not.
What brings it down
- A schedule. Quarterly or six-monthly cleaning keeps each visit short. Ask for the recurring price, not the one-off.
- Several sites together. Groups with three or four kitchens across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Llanelli can put them on one visit schedule and one invoice.
- Filters kept clean between visits. Weekly baffle filter cleaning in the kitchen keeps the load off the ductwork.
How long does a TR19 certificate last?
It is valid until the next-service date printed on it, and that date is set by how hard the kitchen works under TR19 guidance: three months for heavy use (12+ hours of cooking a day — most takeaways and chip shops), six months for moderate use (most restaurants, pubs and hotels), twelve months for light use (a café toasting paninis). An insurer will look at the date, not the certificate.
Cheap versus compliant
A £200 "canopy clean" that wipes the hood and swaps the filters is not a TR19 clean and will not satisfy a loss adjuster after a fire. The visible hood is the easy part; the grease that starts fires is in the ductwork and fan. If a price looks too good, ask whether it includes the full duct run and the fan, and whether you get photographs of the inside of the duct. If the answer is no, you are paying for a wipe-down.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a TR19 certificate?
The certificate is issued with the clean, not sold separately. Typical UK ranges for a full TR19-standard clean with certificate run from about £450 for a small single-canopy kitchen to £2,500 or more for a multi-canopy hotel or holiday-park site. We arrange a local Swansea quote.
How long is a TR19 certificate valid?
Until the next-service date on it — three months for heavy-use kitchens, six for moderate, twelve for light. Insurers look at that date.
Can I just get an inspection without a clean?
Yes. A standalone inspection and condition report with grease readings and photographs typically costs £180–£450 and is useful before signing a lease, at insurance renewal, or to settle a dispute about who left the ductwork in what state.
Why is the first clean more expensive?
Because the grease has had years to build. Once a system is on a regular schedule each visit is quicker, and the recurring price is what you should compare.
Who carries out the work?
We arrange and manage your enquiry and connect you with a specialist commercial kitchen extract provider covering Swansea Bay. They carry out the work to TR19 standard and issue the certificate. You get one clear quote.
